Broun's a birther

Fri, 03/05/2010 - 3:32pm |  Johnathan McGinty

Awesome ...

During an interview with radio host Pete Dominick yesterday, Broun questioned whether Obama is even a legitimate President, saying he “doesn’t know” if Obama is an American citizen:

DOMINICK: You think he’s an American citizen and a Christian?

BROUN: I’m not gonna get involved in that.

DOMINICK: You can’t say that he’s an American citizen?

BROUN: Well —

DOMINICK: You can’t say the president’s an American citizen?

BROUN: I don’t know.

Also, via Blake, he's gotten into a public feud with a cast member of Jersey Shore.

Be proud 10th Congressional District. Hold that head up high.

UPDATE: Jason Pye reports on Twitter ... 'One of Broun's staffers tells me the discussion was taken out of context and they were trying to bait him by switching subjects.' I'm not sure how answering 'I don't know' to 'You can't say the president's an American citizen' can really be taken out of context.

He did kind of get

He did kind of get ambushed. Also, there's no real Snooki-Broun feud. The headline is tongue-in-cheek. Someone asked Snooki about it during a public appearance in Virginia.

Ambushed

Submitted by Sarah on Sun, 03/07/2010 - 11:34am.

I dunno, it's one thing to ambush someone with a question about, say, a particular complex provision of the health-care reform bill, in which the appropriate response could be "I don't know." (An even better response would be "I don't know right now, let me familiarize myself with the provision and get back to you," but even I know that's crazy talk.)I believe the answer to the question here would be "Of course he's an American citizen." For bonus points, "He says he's a Christian, and I take him at his word." Ambush or not.
